# Use the Risk Assistant

Use the assistant to think through an existing risk and find controls to manage it. Choose a prompt to start the analysis.

***

## Start with Your Question

Open a risk from [**Registers → Risk**](https://app.rtosafe.com.au/Risk), then open its AI assistant. Choose a prompt or type your own question:

* **Analyse this risk** reviews the rating, linked controls and gaps in how the risk is managed.
* **Find controls for this risk** searches your existing control register for suitable controls to link.
* **Suggest new controls** drafts ideas for gaps that existing controls don't cover.

The assistant checks your existing controls first, so you can reuse activities your RTO already carries out.

## Review Before Adding

For an existing control, read the suggestion and check that the activity really applies to this risk. Select **Confirm Link** to link it.

For a new control, select **Create** to open the form. Review the description, responsible positions and linked policies. Choose **Preventative**, **Detective** or **Corrective** to describe how it helps; see [control types](/help/risk-register-controls#add-controls).

Select **Create & Link** when you're ready. Check that the activity is in place before relying on it in an assessment.

## Common Issues

<details>

The assistant isn't available

Ask the person managing your [access profile](/help/access-profiles#areas-are-connected) to check the permissions needed for the risk assistant.

<details>

I want suggestions for new risks, not controls

Use [AI Risk Suggestions](/help/risk-register-ai-suggestions) from the register. It uses your Operational Profile to help discover new risks. The assistant described here works on a risk you've already created.
